Getting stuck on data?

Once upon a time I had an employee ask me... "when we disagree, who gets to make the decision?"

I responded with a quote... “If we have data, let’s look at the data. If all we have are opinions, let’s go with mine.” - Jim Barksdale, the former CEO of Netscape..

Many of us get stuck on the data component of running a great organization (having a complete pulse on your business from a handful of objective measurables).

Here is a super simple way to get unstuck:

1. Does your team know what to measure?
2. Do they know how to measure it?
3. Do they have a system for reviewing the data regularly?
4. Are they committed to taking action on the data?

While the above four questions may seem overly simplistic... don't confuse simple with easy. Getting to the point where you have a complete pulse on your business with a one page report is really hard work... but it's worth it.
